"I am pediatric anesthesiologist graduated from Yale School of Medicine, I have seen through 25 plus
year of practice the difference It can make on children's experience to be prepared for a medical
procedure. This is the first book in a planned series that blends strong family values with
approachable medical themes.
With my book, I envision families revisiting the book, not just for the information it provides, but for the comforting memories of preparing for a medical journey together, knowing they faced it as a united front." - Doc. JC

I am the youngest of six siblings in a loving family of second-generation Jamaican Guatemalans. Growing up in Guatemala, my parents instilled in us the importance of education and traveling to experience different cultures. This is why I am fluent in Spanish and English and an advanced French speaker. My childhood memories are flooded with countless hours of fantastic adventures fueled by my creativity and curiosity.
I reside in California with my soul mate; we enjoy outdoor activities, biking, hiking, and tennis. I love swimming and diving. I have completed three sprint-distance triathlons. I devote my time to activities that enhance spiritual, mind-body growth and care for all beings on our planet.
I am an anesthesiologist who has chosen to specialize in pediatric anesthesia. As a graduate of Yale Medical School of Medicine,
I have extensive experience in academia and private practices including dental clinics. It has been an honor to serve as one of the co-founders of the Pediatric Palliative Care at Yale Childrens Hospital, the former director and chair of the Comfort and Pain Management service at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and the founder of the pediatric anesthesia service for Cochlear Implants and Outpatient Surgery Center at a private, not-for-profit health center in Santa Monica.
My love and joy of working with kids allow me the great fortune to participate in multiple volunteer medical missions internationally: Guatemala, Colombia, Thailand, and Kenya. I am always fascinated by kids’ innate ability to dive in and fully experience what is presented to them. These observations are very similar across the board at work, volunteering, and during playtime with nephews, nieces, and friends’ kids.
Their attentiveness, curiosity, and eagerness to learn and fully experience life’s events are the foundation that inspires my intention to fuel their imagination with age-appropriate adventure to introduce them and help them prepare to receive anesthesia and other medical procedures.
